Chords: Em6 - Am - D - C - Em6

This is just a 12 Bar Minor Blues (surprise!) The only slight deviation from the norm is the turnaround, which features a D and C chord (bVII bVI) instead of the usual IV V. The good news is that those chords are diatonic to E Aeolian (E natural minor), so if you feel like using that mode you can. BUT, here's the rub, the riff on the Im chord has a C# in it, which means you should play E DORIAN not E Aeolian (which has a C natural in it). So basically E Dorian on the Im, and E Aeolian on everything else! If that sounds like Greek to you, then use an E Blues scale and call it a day! May you shred the good shred!
